Mourning A Country That Never Was

So much angst. With the revelations about the NSA program and the recent Supreme Court decision allowing the collection of DNA during arrests, there is a palpable feeling of despair and hopelessness among many Americans. A belief that the country the founders established is irretrievably lost. Gone forever. So much angst.

Somewhere along the way, a belief has taken root in the minds of many Americans that the Constitution was founded for the sole purpose of guarding individual liberties. That the unalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence are indeed unalienable; and that the Bill of Rights didn't come with fine print. What makes this situation even more tragic is that simply picking up a book on the history of our Constitution would greatly alleviate much of the suffering.
